The... unconventional posturing (and unintentionally hilarious D: face from Danger, whose eye line leads directly to ninja cameltoe) also brings to mind an excellent post by a martial artist and contortionist who took bizarre superheroine fighting poses to task on his Tumblr:

People. I understand artist license. I understand exaggeration. I understand suspending disbelief. But if a martial artist who is also a contortionist can't mimic a pose you use constantly for female fighters, there might be a problem in, you know, your choices on basic anatomy. I can't be the only one who thinks this.

Returning Rogue - Newsarama Interview Highlights

"There are two reasons she’s gone back there (the Australian Outback); one is just to be away from people because she wants to get her power under control. She wants to do what Professor X has failed to do; what Mystique and Destiny had failed to do; what no one has been able to help her with. She’s working through her problem on her own; she feels like she has to be by herself in order to do it—because of the nature of her powers and the fact that coming into contact with other humans is only going to exacerbate the problem. The other reason why she’s gone back to that one place is of course that that was the place where she finally drove Carol Danvers out of her psyche.

Professor X is looking for her because he wants to make good on that promise he made her all those years ago when she approached the X-Men for help in controlling her abilities. We’ve seen in an earlier arcs how Xavier claimed that he’d eventually help Rogue deal with her problem with her powers. But he was effectively lying because he really had no idea how to help her—and that sort of defines the burden of guilt that he carries. He made a promise in bad faith and now he wants to see if he can finally keep that promise and help Rogue to get out of this impasse.

Charles recruits Gambit—and so far so good—but they aren’t the only ones there. There’s another person looking to make contact with Rogue for very different reasons; there are also some outsiders who are dragged into the mix through a mistake of their own. This story has a very rich mix of new and old characters which results in a situation that spirals very quickly and spectacularly out of control.

What they find when they make contact with Rogue is a million miles away from what they were expecting to find. Rogue isn’t in the same situation that we left her in, and the new situation raises a new set of problems. " - Mike Carey, 11/25/08

X-Men Fan Site - Mike Carey Interview

X-Men Fan Site: We've also seen Rogue come back recently. She also recently ranked number one on the Comic Book Resources top 50 X-men list by the fans. Where do you think her popularity comes from? What can fans expect for her future?

Mike Carey: I can only tell you why I love her, and actually I can't even be eloquent about that. Most characters who really get under your skin do so for reasons that are hard to articulate. Rogue's predicament - the way her power is her curse and her liability, and the way she's so irrevocably isolated by it - is very easy to relate to, but it's got to be more than that. I like her voice. I like the way she can be up-front without ever losing her dignity. I like the fact that she's passionate and yet restrained (passion in chains is way sexier than passion unleashed). I like the fact that she's full of surprises - the X-Men's greatest wild card. I like the contradictions and complications in her: that you can't pin her down in a single phrase.

For Rogue's future... expect a huge surprise in Legacy#224, and some exciting developments immediately arising from that.

X-Men Fan Site: The Rogue/Gambit relationship has a very love/hate reaction from fans. What are your thoughts on that pairing?

Mike Carey: I like the dynamic between them, but I think they're strong enough apart that it shouldn't be automatic to put them together whenever they're on-stage. Okay, they'll always be a big part of each other's lives, but there's a danger of defaulting back to a boom-and-bust model where Rogue suspects Remy, then is reconciled with him, then back to suspicion again. I'm going to have some Rogue-Gambit beats coming up very soon, but I'm not going to take it in the most obvious direction.

X-Men Legacy - Wizard Interview tidbits

Wizard: And to ask about some of your specific plotlines from X-Men and some of the characters we saw there, I know a lot are wondering about Rogue and Gambit’s relationship. Are we going to be seeing them immediately, or will readers have to wait a while?

Mike: It’ll take a while. We glimpse Rogue in the first arc. She becomes more important in the second arc, and then in the third arc the spotlight is very much on her. In a way, it’s finishing off a story that began in X-Men #188 when I first came on board. It’s like the ultimate payoff for everything I’ve done with Rogue over the past couple of years.

X-Men Legacy - Comics Bulletin tidbits

In the second and third arcs we bring in Rogue and Gambit; we bring in some classic X villains – Sebastian Shaw is going to make an appearance. Beyond that there will be some surprises. I won't name any more names if you don't mind.I love Rogue. I've always loved Rogue, from the moment she was introduced. I love the way her power works, and the way it's screwed her up. In a way, Rogue is the quintessential X-Man for me, because power is not a blessing for her, it's a curse. It brings so many entanglements and so many problems in its wake it almost negates itself.

NRAMA: The preview of X-Men: Legacy #208 indicates that Magneto and Xavier will play crucial roles in the restructuring of the X-Men title. Who else can the readers expect to see?

MC: It’s very much Xavier’s book. He’s the only character who will always be “on stage” as it were. Magneto does become involved at a certain point; Rogue and Gambit will be coming in quite significantly, as well as a lot of prominent X-Men villains—the ones you could reasonably called Professor X’s nemeses, in the sense that they’re the big, strategic masterminds and visionaries on the other side of the equation: Xavier’s opposites, as it were. In the first arc, we’ll see Exodus and the Acolytes, and we’ll also be seeing Omega Sentinel again.

NRAMA: Having mentioned Rogue and Gambit, will the two star-crossed lovers have a reprieve or is it more rocky sailing for this pair?

MC: Initially, we see Rogue alone. There is actually a scene in X-Men #207, at the end of Messiah Complex, where she walks away from Mystique and from Gambit in a very final way. It will be a while before we see the two of them together again but we will. As to the rocks… well, it would be a lie to say that anything in that relationship is plain sailing.

MC: Even though her (Mystique's) primary motivation here was to save her adopted daughter, Rogue, it’s made very clear that she is a very powerful mind, a very powerful personality and she is now cut off from Rogue, who has turned her back on her. There’s nothing now to rein in some of Mystique’s worst impulses.

Q: What can you tell us about the cast for X-Men Legacy?

A: That's a hard question to answer, because arguably if I'm doing it right pretty much everyone in X-Men continuity is going to come in at one point or another. But I'm planning to bring two female characters - one old, one new - in for some pretty profound and revelatory beats. And there's a triumvirate of X-Men villains who play a crucial part at different times: the grand old men, in some ways.

Q: Given the way you’ve put Rogue through the wringer – probably more than anyone else during your run – until she’s barely functioning, barely in control … do you plan to continue with Rogue from here or is she left like that for someone else?

A: Oh no, she’s not left like that. Everything, every single Rogue beat was planned in advance, we knew where we wanted to take her and where we wanted to leave her and the story’s emphatically not over yet.

Rogue Solo Series

The more people who ask for it, the more chances they'll consider it.

Mike has just recently pitched an idea to Marvel for a Rogue project, although he hasn't said what kind of project. He's hinted before that he'd like to do a mini-series featuring our Southern belle. But what would be better than a solo series? If Ms. Marvel can have one, why not Rogue? Especially if Mike Carey wrote it!

So, go now! Write Marvel and tell them what you'd like to see!

Rogue and Gambit in X-Men # 204

I don't want to say much here about the Rogue/Gambit scene (because it's meant to speak for itself), but I will explain the reasoning behind it. My aim here is to play both characters true to themselves; true to the way they've been established. It seems to me that this is a completely separate question from whether the relationship continues or not. Neither Rogue nor Remy is the sort of person who can lightly forget past intimacies and obligations because time and circumstance have intervened. So the scene had to be there. And some other stuff which is coming up also has to be there. Some readers will have mixed feelings about it, but I couldn't not write it. Next Few Arcs

The next few arcs… well, as you know, Condition Critical leaves some ongoing problems behind it, not least for Rogue and Cable. In the #200-#203 arc, we see the team trying to deal with those situations - and going back to a setting we haven’t seen for a long time. A setting which has particular significance for Rogue. That’s when the fewmets really hit the windmill: starting in #200, things go from bad to unimaginably bad, and the X-Men are left trying to figure out why they’ve been hit and how they can respond before things escalate out of control. I say the X-Men… but it won’t be all of the X-Men. It will be a kind of ragged rump of a team, running with the ball because nobody else can.Then we’re into the crossover, and the transition into that is going to be a big - a very big - cliff-hanger not just for the Adjectiveless team but for everyone. And after that, in #208, we’ll be introducing our new team, with (hopefully) some big surprises. - Mike Carey
